The Location
The House lies off a quiet residential road, tucked away from summer traffic and crowds and is a short stroll from the beach. Beer is within striking distance for a weekend break from London or Birmingham. The journey from London via the A303 to Ilminster is 3 hours and from Birmingham via the M5 to Taunton also takes 3 hours. There are fast trains from London Waterloo to Axminster, 4 miles away, with a 2 hour 45 minute journey time. Exeter Airport has a growing list of international routes and is a 25 minute drive. The History
Upcott was built in 1897 for a Rear Admiral as a gift to his two daughters Angela and Annette who lived there for many years. Since then it has been used both as a private residence and as a holiday retreat by a charitable trust. The current owners purchased the property in 2007 and have spent the last 12 months lovingly retorting it to its former glory, making use of environmentally friendly, organic and renewable materials where possible.
