Felmingham Hall is an impressive Grade II listed Elizabethan Manor House set in the heart of rural Norfolk. It has been renovated with meticulous care and and much passion by the owner to provide an extremely comfortable and grand venue for a large gathering of family or friends.

The Location

Felmingham Hall is situated between Aylsham and North Walsham in Norfolk. It lies in an extremely peaceful setting at the end of a long drive off a quiet country lane. The property is surrounded by fields and woodland on 3 sides and is 1/2 mile outside the nearest village. The Hall is a 3 hour drive from London, Birmingham and Manchester. Norwich is a 20 minute drive and has an airport and main line rail station. Fast trains from Liverpool Street Station in London to Norwich take 2 hours.

The History

Felmingham Hall, built in 1569 is a Grade II listed Elizabethan manor house. It is described by Pevsner, the architectural historian, as one of the earliest examples of Elizabethan architecture in Norfolk. A house has existed on the site since the 11th century when the manor was first granted by William the Conquerer. During the early 18th century, the Hall was the home of William Talman, royal architect to the court of James I and architect of some of England's finest houses, including Chatsworth House in Derbyshire.

The Accommodation (14 Guests)

The property has a wealth of period features, like oak panelling, open fires, ornate ceilings, stained glass and is furnished throughout with early English portraits, tapesties and antique oak furniture. Most bedrooms feature four poster beds, and all have modern en-suites with roll-top baths or showers. The entrance hall features period-style knowle sofas; the ground floor drawing room has a baby grand piano and the first floor Long Room has comfy country house sofas, together providing a unique ambience in which to entertain your family and friends.

  2. Panelled reception room with a baby grand piano and open fire. Audio/visual equipment features Freeview, DVD and CD.
  3. Dining room with open fire, ornate ceiling and long table seating 14.
  4. Children’s snug.
  5. Bar with banquette seating and CD.
  6. Contemporary stainless steel kitchen overlooking walled herb garden and featuring a Smeg range cooker and dishwasher, large fridge and freezer.
First Floor:
  1. Long drawing room with oak paneling, huge sofas, small library and cloakroom.
  2. Master bedroom with 17th century four poster 5' bed and an en-suite bathroom with roll-top bath and shower.
  3. Double bedroom with 18th century four poster 5' 6" bed and an en-suite bathroom with roll-top bath and shower attachment.
  4. Double bedroom with an 4 poster bed, Elizabethan fireplace and an en-suite shower room.
Second Floor:
  1. Double bedroom accessed via a private staircase with Gothic style 6' bed and day bed (which provides an additional single bed to create twin bedded room, for children or sharers if required) and en-suite bathroom with double ended roll-top bath.
  2. Double bedroom with 17th century oak four poster 4'6" bed and en-suite bathroom with slipper bath and shower attachment.
  3. Double bedroom with oak 5' bed and en-suite bathroom with roll-top bath.
  4. Double bedroom with oak panelled four poster 5' bed and day bed (which provides an additional single bed to create twin bedded room for children or sharers if required) and en-suite bathroom with roll top bath and shower attachment.
Guests should note that the owners live in a self contained wing to the rear of the Hall with separate access and entrance.
Your privacy will be maintained at all times.


The Grounds

Six acres in total comprising:
  1. Walled garden with knot garden, fountain, summer house, barbecue area and outdoor swimming pool, (available to use between 1st May and 30th September) and a wild flower meadow.
  2. Old moat and Statuary.
  3. Large child friendly lawn to front.
  4. Ample parking in drive and under cover parking for 2 cars.

  9. Visit Sandringham, the Queen’s country estate near Kings Lynn.
  10. Go horse racing at Fakenham.

Price

The Hall and is available for a minimum stay of two nights and includes the services of a butler or housekeeper.
During the months of June, July and August the minimum stay is five nights, as is Christmas and New Year.
