Formerly a Victorian farmhouse, Greenscombe House is nestled in the heart of the Tamar Valley – a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - and tucked away adjacent to Greenscombe Woods. Greenscombe House is a place where you can relax - from listening to music and sharing a bottle of wine with loved ones and friends to taking part in your children's games in the gardens, or drinking coffee and reading the newspapers on a sunny morning. Greenscombe House is full of character and charm. The property is beautifully furnished with large comfortable sofas, luxurious beds and open fires. Check Availability Location Greenscombe House is located on the edge of a popular Tamar Valley village on the border of Devon and Cornwall along a no-through road with incredible countryside views overlooking the River Tamar adjacent to Greenscombe Woods. The Tamar Valley is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. the Cottage is just 8 miles from Tavistock and 12 miles from Launceston. The History The oldest part of Greenscombe House dates from the 1860’s the main body of the house was constructed in 1912 with a date plaque to the front gable wall. Greenscombe House is an original Duchy Farmhouse with the crest on the plaque. The property was further extended in 1977. The Accommodation The accommodation sleeps 7 guests (8 using an extra bed or travel cot available) Ground Floor: - Hall with downstairs toilet and sink.
- The traditional farmhouse kitchen is equipped with an Aga and all the mod cons you need to make life easier, as well as a farmhouse kitchen table.
- Large dining room where eight people can eat in comfort.
- Living room where you can relax and read a book or chat to your family and friends.
- Second living room with Plasma screen, satellite TV and DVD player. This is the place to watch a film or listen to music beside a roaring open fire.
First Floor: - Master bedroom. King size double or twin with en suite shower, toilet and basin.
- Bedroom two. King size double or twin with feature original fireplace.
- Bedroom three. King size double or twin with feature original fireplace.
- Bedroom four. Single with pull out bed for double occupancy with feature original fireplace.
- All bedrooms have built in cupboard space as well as stand alone feature furniture for separate storage compartments for clothes etc.
- Main bathroom. Spacious with bath, separate shower, sink and toilet.
The Grounds Outside in this tranquil Tamar Valley location you will find a barbecue area with comfortable seating for eight as well as a large parasol and cushions. Pretty gardens surround the house and overlook the River Tamar and valley beyond. From Greenscombe House you have direct access to Greenscombe Woods. Historically, much of the ancient woodland at Greenscombe was managed as oak coppice with some areas being a market garden at the turn of the century – in fact cultivated strawberry plants can still be found. Greenscombe Woods is one of the sites used by the Natural Environment Research Council for its Butterfly Monitoring Scheme and has a transect crossing the reserve. Beaches Seaton Beach Large beach of sand with small pebbles, south facing. Located at the bottom of the River Seaton valley. Parking is right next to the beach. Seaside Award 2006. Millendreath Beach South facing small cove of sand very popular with families. The surrounding area is largely taken up by a holiday park, which has many facilities open to the public. Beautiful Beaches www.caradon.gov.uk Some of Europe's best beaches are easily accessible from the house, Newquay, Looe, St Ives, Whitsand Bay etc. Looe Beach A shingle beach with areas of rock to explore at low tide. Popular with the locals and boat lovers. There are lots of water sport activities all year round. A bathing area is cordoned off in summer.
